Collation: Aa 6; a-d 8 e 6 f-o 8 . 8 . 6 p-z A-C 8 . 6 D-M 6 . 6 . 8 N 6 O-R 8 . 6 S 6 T-Y 8 . 6 (Aa1r title, Aa1v prologue and contents, Aa2r tracts on grammar by Guarino and Johannes de Lapide; a1r Reuchlin text, Y6 blank). 322 leaves. 52 lines and headline, double column. 3- to 8-line initial spaces, most with printed guide-letters. Types: 1:160G (title, headlines), 4/5:80G (text). (Some browning, light worming and dampstaining.) Binding : contemporary blind-tooled calf over unbevelled wooden boards, outer border of a hunting scene roll, inner border and central compartment with an interlace roll, rosettes or leaf ornaments in other compartments and on spine, title tooled at head of front cover, evidence of 2 fore-edge clasps, probably an Augsburg binding, the tools not in Kyriss or Schwenke-Sammlung (somewhat worn). Provenance : ?Cham, Franciscan convent:th-century inscription on title ( Ad R.P. Franciscanos Cambii Bibl. ) -- Munich, Royal Library, duplicate: stamps erased from first two and last leaves, "Duplum" inside front cover -- Graf Konrad Reuttner von Weyl: Bloomsbury Book Auctions, 31 October 1985, lot 140 (to Lathrop Harper). Reuchlin's Latin lexicon was one of the most popular of the 15th century. It was first printed in 1478 by Amerbach at Basel, where Reuchlin was then teaching. The tract De arte punctandi has also been attributed to Guillaume Fichet (cf. E. Beltran in Scriptorium , 39, 1985, pp. 284-91).
