AH 898/1492 AD): DIWAN COLOPHON WITH NAME OF SHEIKH MAHMUD, TIMURID IRAN OR BAGHDAD, DATED AH 867/1462-63 AD Poetry, Persian manuscript on paper, 54ff. plus 2 fly-leaves, each folio with 17ll. of elegant black nasta'liq generally arranged in two columns with double gold intercolumnar rule, occasional panels with text in a single central column, text panels outlined in gold and blue and on wide cream margins, catchwords, opening bifolio with a gold strapwork band within the central intercolumnar rules, opening folio with gold and polychrome illuminated headpiece surmounting text, colophon possibly tampered with but stating katabahu Mahmud 'afa allah 'anhu fi sana sab' wa sittin wa thamanmi'ah bi-dar al-'ilm Baghdad , minor areas of smudging and staining, in later green morocco with stamped central medallion and pendants, pink paper doublures Text panel 6 x 3 1/8in.
