AH 898/1492-93 AD): THE THIRD BOOK OF THE SILSILAT AL-DHAHAB COPIED BY MUHAMMAD SALIH AL-KATIB, OTTOMAN TURKEY, DATED AH 980/1572-73 AD A chain of poems in even meter discussing philosophical, ethical and religious themes with illustrative anecdotes, Persian manuscript on gold-sprinkled paper, 45ff. plus 1 fly-leaf, each with 14ll. of black nasta'liq arranged in two columns with double gold intercolumnar rule, catchwords, marginal rule in gold, green and blue, titles in red and blue, opening folio with gold and polychrome illuminated headpiece, colophon signed Muhammad Salih al-Katib and dated AH 980, and with later Safavid-style drawing around it, the preceding two folios with later panels of illumination, waterstaining throughout, in red morocco with gilt stamped floral central medallion Folio 9¼ x 5 5/8in. (23.5 x 14.4cm.); text panel 6 1/8 x 3¼in. (15.5 x 8cm.)
