AH 898/1492 AD): SUBHAT AL-ABRAR COPIED BY SULTAN MUHAMMAD KHANDAN, HERAT, DATED AH 930/1523-24 AD 'The Rosary of the Pious', the well known didactic poem of theological, ethical and mystical significance, Persian manuscript on ivory paper, 224ff. plus 4 fly-leaves, each folio with 14ll. of elegant black nasta'liq arranged in two columns with double gold intercolumnar rules, text panels with gold margins between black and blue rules, headings in gold, opening bifolio with fine gold and polychrome illumination bordering central text panels with 6ll. of nasta'liq in clouds reserved against gold hatched ground, colophon signed Sultan Muhammad Khandan and dated 930, some staining, later owner's stamp, in later Qajar lacquer binding with floral motifs on red ground, the doublures green with gold spray of daffodils Folio 9½ x 5½in. (24.2 x 13.8cm.); text panel 7 x 3¾in. (18 x 9.5cm.)
