Beschreibung:

31.5" blade retailed Willard & Hawley, Syracuse, N.Y. etched on both sides with U.S. Right side of blade having Victory etched in a banner with image of a soldier waving a flag. Left side of blade having inscription etched in center panel, Capt. John F. Crouse 24th Brigade A.G.S.N.Y. Brass hilt with gold gilt and shagreen handle and brass wire. Brown metal scabbard with gold plated brass fittings. Capt. We could not find a record of John J. Crouse with Civil War service and he is not listed in the Volunteer Register and is presumed to be a staff officer assigned to the Adjutant General State of New York, an entirely independent military organization/department in the state hierarchy during the Civil War. Crouse is likely documented in Phisterer (1890). Condition: Blade has ca 98% finish with minute staining. Etched panels are 100% crisp. Metal scabbard showing ca 90% of original brown lacquer finish. Ca 90% original plating on all of the brass fittings. A pristine sword with a wonderful overall luster.
