Beschreibung:

a medium quality sword that exemplifies the common post-Civil War officer's sword. The grip is dark stained and varnished wood; it may never have had another cover. Slight chip at pommel cap, wire wrap intact. Brass guard with eagle; no folding counterguard on this version. Knuckle bow and guard is loose, but easily tightened. The 29.5" blade is turning aged gray, with no nicks and clear patriotic etching, eagle, and U.S. On ricasso G.F. Foster Son & Co., Chicago. Scabbard is solid brass with 3 suspension rings. No dents, only one slight ding at top suspension band. Still attached to is heavy brass 10.5" long suspension chain with swivel snap on one end and a heavy, flat spring snap on the other end. Sold with a black patent leather officer's belt rig and plate of Indian War vintage that originally came with the sword. Condition: Sword and belt rig both G.-VG.
