1974 MG GT V8 Lot Number 233 Registration VVB 192M Chassis Number GD2D1-1076G Engine Number -1024 Odometer reading 93,802 miles Estimate No Reserve Result Sold - £11,872 Print details Send this to a friend The MGB was first introduced in May 1962 as a direct replacement for the MGA. October 1965 saw the introduction of the GT and was based on the already popular roadster. Designed by Pinninfarina, the new GT sported a hatchback giving useful access to the rear luggage space and a rear bench seat that enabled the car to be called a 2+2. Ken Costello saw the possibility of fitting the larger aluminium 328cc, Rover PUB engine having been sure that the handling and braking could be made to match the much improved performance; not that it needed significant changes as the V8 weighed in at around 40s lighter than the four cylinder iron blocked engine it replaced. This genuine factory built MGB GT V8 has been in the current ownership since July 2010 and sadly, due to ill health, cannot be used or maintained in the condition it has been accustomed to. Unable to drive or even polish this little MG, the vendor has made a difficult decision to let it go to a new owner where it may be cared for. Interestingly, a previous owner purchased this MG in 1992 from the £10,000 prize money of the Radio Times – Top Gear classic car competition. Today, the MG GT V8 is much revered, especially genuine factory produced V8's. This MG GT V8 is fitted with the correct Dunlop alloy wheels (including the spare), inertia seat belts, fire extinguisher, sunroof, period Mountney steering wheel and chrome sill covers. On inspection of the coachwork, it will be found that some areas require attention, however, the interior is smart and boasts black leather seats that are in a lovely patinated state. The engine is fitted with an oil cooler and a remote oil filter. This is a UK manufactured and registered MG with an MoT test certificate valid until 18th October 2017. With the MGB V8 prices now rising rapidly, we feel that this is a rare opportunity especially given as this motor car is offered without reserve.
