The surface of the vase features symbols of the zodiac in relief. The vase was created by Willibald Russ, a Czech-German sculptor and ceramicist who started working at Wiener Werkstätte in 1906 and later had his own studio in Vienna. In 1920 he returned to his hometown of Schönfeld (Krásno) and went on to create the Goethe memorial in Marienbad (Mariánské Lázně).
