Western Asiatic Cylinder Seal with Worshipping and Contest Scenes 19th-16th century BC A carved lapis lazuli Old Syrian cylinder seal with worshipping and contest scenes; two opposite men, each with a mace behind the back, between them a bucranium, acting with quadrupeds. The left man wears the high Syrian cap, whose point ends in a ball, and a very short skirt with a wide belt; he raises his right palm in worship of an antelope standing upright on its hind legs; down between them a fish, the right man with a head of hair and a long slit skirt holds an antelope up the hind legs; the 'stylised tree' between the two antelopes serves here as a scene separator; accompanied by a museum-quality impression. 3.47 grams, 20mm (3/4"). Very fine condition. [No Reserve] Provenance Property of a London lady, part of her family's Swiss collection; formerly acquired in the 1980s. Literature See Collon, D.
