VISSCHER, Nicolaus (1649-1702). Atlas minor sive totius orbis terrarum contracta delinea ex conatibus... Amsterdam: Visscher, [circa 1698]. 2 o (505 x 320 mm). Engraved hand-colored title and 125 hand-colored engraved maps, mostly double-page and some folding, ALL COLORED IN A CONTEMPORARY HAND, and mounted on guards. (Some plates with tears to folds or edges, a few maps loose at beginning, some with repairs on verso, some light dust soiling or staining, title loose, mounted and with marginal chipping and dust soiling, a few maps backed with linen, map of Normadie with large hole, map of Zutphaniae Comitatus with small hole). 19th-century vellum. Later edition, with most of the maps by Nicolaus Visscher, but some maps by de Wit or others. Atlases of this period frequently varied in composition according to the customer's request. The assemblage here follows a natural geographical order ending with 8 maps of the Americas including: Visscher, "Novissima et Accuratissima totius Americae;" Jansonius, "America Septentrionalis;" Visscher, "Novi Belgii novaeque Angliae nec non Partis Virginiae Tabula" and others.
