Neill died in 1943, Reilly & Lee waited until the end of World War II to sign up Jack Snow as the fourth Royal Historian of Oz. This self-proclaimed Oz expert was gathering material for a biography of L. Frank Baum (that he never wrote) when he produced the first of two Oz Books with illustrator Kramer.
