(1829-1896) A Portrait of John Wycliffe Taylor at the Age of Five signed with monogram (lower right), and inscribed 'John Wycliffe Taylor (Aged 5)/painted by Millais/1874' (on the reverse) and 'Portrait of John Wycliffe Taylor/(at the age of 5)/painted in 1864 by the late John Everett Millais P.R.A./in fulfilment of his promise to the late Tom Taylor that if ever he had a son/J.E.M. would paint the child/for many an act of friendly kindness,/especially that in connection with the/well known picture of Sir Isumbras,/exhibited at the Royal Academy/in 1857' (on an old label on the reverse), in original frame oil on panel 14 x 10 5/8 in.
