Sacheverell (Henry). A Defence of Her Majesty's Title to the Crown, and a Justification of Her entring into a War with France and Spain: As it was Deliver'd in a Sermon Preach'd before the University of Oxford on the 10th day of June 1702, 2nd ed., 1710, engraved portrait frontispiece, 24 pp., bound with The Communication of Sin: A Sermon Preach'd at the Assizes held at Derby, August 15th, 1709, 1709, 16 pp., bound with The Perils of False Bretheren, both in Church, and State: Set Forth in a Sermon Preach'd before the Right Honourable The Lord-Mayor, Aldermen, and Citizens of London, at the Cathedral-Church of St. Paul, on the 5th of November, 1709, 1709, 24 pp., bound with The Answer of Henry Sacheverell. D.D. To the Articles of Impeachment, Exhibited against him by the Honourable House of Commons, &c. For Preaching Two Sermons, I. At the Assizes held at Derby August 15th. II. At the Cathedral Church of St. Paul. Nov. 5th. 1709, 1710, half title, 28 pp., bound with three others: Collections of Passages referr'd to by Dr. Henry Sacheverell in his Answer to the Articles of Impeachment, 2nd ed., 1710, The Case of Dr. Sacheverell. Represented in a Letter to a Noble Lord, 1710 and The Speech of Henry Sacheverell, D.D. upon his Impeachment at the Bar of the House of Lords, in Westminster-Hall, March 7, 1710, 1710, some spotting and toning, bookplate, contemporary previous owner inscription, contemporary panelled calf, joints cracking, rubbed, 8vo. Collection of sermons by virulent anti-Whig clergyman Henry Sacheverell (1674-1724) which led to his suspension from preaching by the Whig government in 1710. However, he had popular support and the subsequent riots in London and other parts of the country resulted in the downfall of the government and the passing of the Riot Act in 1714. (1)
