Narrative of a Residence in Koordistan, and on the Site of ancientNineveh; with Journal of a Voyage down the Tigris to Bagdad and an Account of a Visit to Shirauz and Persepolis... Edited by his Widow. I-II. London (James Duncan 1836. 8:o (about 203x128 mm.). (3), iv-xxxiii, (1 blank), (1)-398; (3), iv-viii, (1)-410 pp. 2 folding engraved maps (mounted on thin linen cloth), 1 folding engraved plan (of Niniveh, mounted on thin linen cloth), 10 lithographed plates, of which 3 folding (all, one mended in outer margin, some foxing). Near contemporary brown morocco, gilt borders, gilt inner dentelles, somewhat faded gilt spine in six compartments, gilt edges. Some minor foxing. Bookplates of Alexander Eraut and Georg Schackne. First edtion. Posthumously published in 1836. Valuable as the first nineteenth-century geographical and archaeological account of the region, and also an interesting narrative of travel.
