MAD architects, 2018, für Sawaya & Moroni, Holz, weiß lackiert, Höhe 76 cm, Breite 56 cm, Tiefe 57 cm, Sitzhöhe 46 cm. (DRAX) Einzelstück in Holz. Die spätere Produktion ist aus Polyurethan geformt und hat einen verstärkenden mit Metallkern. Als Prototyp erstmals präsentiert im Salone del Mobile 2018 in Mailand. The GU CHAIR is part of the design research conducted with conviction Ma Yansong of MAD architects, which tends to cross-fertilize between architecture and landscape, making the built environment an extension and sometimes a metaphor of the natural context in which it is set, yet without ever compromising on its contemporary spirit. On the scale of the everyday object, this relationship with nature becomes organic: GU (which is in Mandarin language a synonym for "bone", so alos has the secondary meaning of "structure" among its more important derivatives) becomes an opportunity for experimenting with how to translate every living beings fibrous connective tissue into the difficult typology of the chair. From this standpoint, this wooden chair takes on the appearance of a unique structure, a figure whose components mesh seamlessly, so that each element is part of the next, in a unique complementary synthesis of matter and form. Presented as a prototype in 2018, the GU Chair has been developed in terms of its structural solidity in the 2019 version made of highdensity polyurethane with an inner metal insert.
