Wetstein, 1697-1701, 2 parts in 1 volume, (24),132,(20),18,(2); (32),216,(40) p., with the following engravings: frontisp. by J. Goerée, 15 double-p. maps (9x by G. de Broen, 5x by J. Luiken and 1x by J. Goerée), 3 plates and num. illustrations in the text, letterpress double-p. table, contemp. richly gilt full vellum, both covers with central coat of arms of Amsterdam within double gilt border and sm. coats of arms in corners, spine with 8 compartments with again sm. coats of arms of Amsterdam, folio.
Occas. sl. foxed/ spotted; vellum over joints cracked; lacks 2 ties, 2 ties loose but preserved. Good copy in attractive school prize binding, with letterpress prize with engraved coat of arms of Amsterdam, filled out in pen, awarded to Petrus Lyndrajer, signed by rector Herm. Boscha, dated 1817. Spoelder, Amsterdam 12. Tiele 36 and 37; cf. De Prijs is het Bewijs 39, and illustration; Haitsma Mulier/ Van der Lem 12; Klaversma/ Hannema 50 and 51. Richly illustrated first and only edition of Menso Alting the Younger's description of the Low Countries. The first part treats the Low Countries in antiquity according to classical authors, the second part deals with the medieval period.
