(Pennsylvania) Printed and manuscript indenture on vellum from Pennsylvania dated 18 April 1815 Place Published: Susquehanna County Publisher: Land-office of Pennsylvania Date Published: 1815 Description: 1 page. 29x50 cm (11¾x19¾"), parchment framed in orange mat; museum glass on both sides. Signed by John Cochran (Secretary of the Land-office of Pennsylvania) on left of document, below paper seal of the Land Office of Pennsylvania affixed in upper left corner. On reverse in manuscript: "Patent Timothy Pickering 425 A's Susquehanna County". Indenture transferring a parcel of land in Susquehanna County, PA to a certain Timothy Pickering in the year 1815. Document is on parchment, with printed boilerplate and manuscript particulars. Transcription of document: "[printed] The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania To all whom these Presents shall come, GREETING: Know ye, That in consideration of the [manuscript] monies paid by James Reed for the Warrant hereinafter mentioned and of the sum of thirty eight dollars & ninety nine cents in full since paid by the said Commonwealth , unto the said Timothy Pickering a certain tract of land situate in Bridgwater [sic] Township, Susquehanna County Beginning at a small lynn [sic] thence by land of Charles French west three hundred fifty perches to a sugar tree thence by land of Godfrey Twells[?] south two hundred six perches to a pool, thence by land of Benedict Dorsey East, three hundred fifty perches to a post Whence by land of John Fromberger north two hundred six perches to the Beginning Containing four hundred twinty five acres and the Allowance [initials?] Which said pad of land was survey'd in pursuance of a Warrant dated the 24th August 1784 granted to the said James Reed who by Deed dated the 10th day of November 1785 conveyed his right unto the above described pad of land unto Tench Francis who by Deed dated the 22'd November 1787 conveyed the same to the said Timothy Pickering [hereafter frequently mixed manuscript/print] To have and to hold the said Tract or Parcel of Land, with the Appurtenances, unto the said Timothy Pickering and his Heirs to the use of him the said Timothy Pickering his Heirs and Assigns for ever, free and clear of all Restrictions and Reservations, as to Mines, Royalties, Quit-rents, or otherwise, excepting and reserving only the fifth part of all God and Silver Ore, for the use of this Commonwealth, to be delivered at the Pit's Mouth, clear of all Charges. IN WITNESS whereof [ms] John Cochran [printed] Secratary of the Land-office of the said Commonwealth, hath hereto set his HAND, and the SEAL of the Land-office of Pennsylvania hath been hereunto affixed, the eighteenth day of April in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and fifteen and of the Commonwealth the thirty ninth.
