Saint Nicholas and Saint Uldrich

Two wooden statues, dating from around 1700, represent Saint Nicholas of Myra and Ulrich (Uldrich) of Augsburg. St. Nicholas is depicted with his usual attributes: a miter, a crook, and three golden apples. He is the patron saint of Russia and Lorraine, children, virgins, fishermen, judges, lawyers, notaries, traders, pharmacists, butchers, brewers, bakers, farmers, weavers and firefighters. Saint Ulrich (Uldrich) was the bishop of Augsburg and is probably the first saint officially canonized by the Pope. He is depicted with a Book of Gospels and a fish. He is the patron saint of Swabia, the city of Augsburg and the Augsburg diocese, of St. Ulrich (Ortisei) in Val Gardena (Grödnertal), wineries, fishermen, and travellers.
