Dieses prachtvolle Blumen- und Früchtestillleben zeigt - mit schnellem, nervösen Pinselstrich - ein fantasievoll freies Durcheinander an Formen vor einer Landschaft bei Sonnenuntergang. Diese Art der Darstellung erinnert vage an die lebhaften Einfälle von Luca Forte (um 1610-um 1680), aber auch an ähnliche Kompositionen, wie sie Abraham Brueghel (1631-1697) während seines Aufenthalts in Neapel im letzten Viertel des 16. Jahrhunderts malte. Auch die Sillleben en plein air des sogenannten Maestro del Metropolitan und von Giuseppe Ruoppolo (um 1631-um 1710) kommen als denkbare Einflüsse hier durchaus infrage. Im Augenblick ist es jedoch nicht möglich, die Identität des Malers eindeutig zu bestimmen. Mit Sicherheit handelt es sich um einen Maler, der den Zeitgeschmack besonders der römischen und neapolitanischen Stillleben um die Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts gut kannte. Der üppige Pinselstrich, die ausgewogene Komposition und die braunstichige Farbgebung, die zur abendlichen Stimmung des Hintergrunds passt, deuten auf eine bemerkenswerte künstlerische Persönlichkeit hin, deren hohes qualitatives Niveau nicht von den flachen modischen Einflüssen bekannter Maler dieses Genres geschmälert wird. Executed in swift and energetic brushstrokes, this magnificent flower and fruit still life shows an imaginatively free chaos of shapes set against a landscape at sunset. This type of depiction is vaguely reminiscent of the lively compositional ideas of Luca Forte (ca. 1610-ca. 1680) but also of similar compositions by Abraham Brueghel executed during his stay in Naples in the last quarter of the 16th century. Other potential influences are the still lifes en plein air by the so called “Maestro del Metropolitan“ and by Giuseppe Ruoppolo At present however, it is impossible to clearly determine the identity of the painter. It is only certain that the artist had a good knowledge of the prevailing taste, especially of Roman and Neapolitan still-life painting of the mid-17th century. The ex-uberant brushstrokes, balanced composition and brownish colouring, which matches the evening mood of the background, point towards a noteworthy artist, whose high- quality standard is not narrowed by the shallow, fashionable influences displayed by other known painters of this genre.
