Longfellow (about a suspicious charitable appeal), George Bernard Shaw (card, 1895, withdrawing his nomination), Marie Corelli (to her publishers Skeffington & Son, announcing completion of her latest novel [The Murder of Delicia] and promising to add a preface explaining why she is dealing with a topic "which cannot but be humiliating to certain gentlemen" [the preface states, inter alia, that 'There are any number of women who work night and day with brain and hand to support useless and brainless husbands']), Mary H.
