MANET, EDOUARD Autograph letter signed to Coquelin dated July 19 but no year. Single page on notepaper, ten lines of text in black ink plus felicitations etc. 8 x 5 1/4 inches (20.5 x 13.5 cm). An attractive example, framed with an image of Manet. Manet writes to Ernest Coquelin the actor and collector of Impressionist art, asking him, as a favor, to attend the audition of Mme. Amelie Villetard at the Theatre Francais. The audition must have been successful, because she became a well-regarded actress and playwright before her early death in 1888. This letter was presumably penned in the 1870s. Provenance: Kenneth W. Rendell Gallery C
