Lot of 20 sixth plate portraits, including 8 daguerreotypes and 12 ambrotypes, taken by photographers credited on either brass mats or velvet pads of cases. Among the highlights are a Bogardus daguerreotype portrait of a stately gentleman; a daguerreotype of an older man holding what appears to be a walking stick, credited to Leich, Tucker & Perkins, Augusta, GA; and an ambrotype by Lyons & Co. of a young woman wearing a large cameo, housed in the "Very Rare" Voyage of Life, Old Age case [1-80], as catalogued in Berg. Also with two portraits of identified subjects, including an ambrotype of a balding man in a gingham cravat, identified as Reuben D. Morehouse and credited to M.E. Judd, as well as an ambrotype by J.S. Mayer of Charles Moses (1799-1866). Other identified photographers including Batchelder, Claflin, J.B. Cox, Cutting & Turner, R.H. Dewey, Dowery, C. Evans, Frear, J.U. French, Holmes, Rehn, and J.H. Whitehurst. Images housed in full pressed paper or thermoplastic cases. Provenance:Marvin Lieber Collection of Early Photographica Condition: Condition varies and includes tarnish, spotting, scratching, and flaking.
