Die prachtvoll feinmalerischen Handeinbände zeigen mit gemalter floraler Bordüre entomologische Fauna wie Hummel, Maikäfer, Grünes Heupferd (Laubheuschrecke - Tettigoniidae), Grille, Heimchen, Ameisenlöwe (Larve der Ameisenjungfer) und drei Ameisen, sowie zwei Laufkäfer. Der erste Band zeigt ein Frauenportrait nebst der Signatur von Cain. Er entstammte einer Künstlerfamilie Er war Schüler bei Alexandre Cabanel und Jean-Georges-Vibert. Später war er im Atelier von Édouard Detaille. Mit der Unterstützung seiner Lehrer konnte Cain bereits 1878 an der Jahresausstellung des Salon de Paris teilnehmen. Vom Publikum wie von der offiziellen Kunstkritik hochgelobt, wirkte er bis 1900 nahezu an jeder dieser jährlich stattfindenden Ausstellungen mit. In dieser Zeit konnte er große Erfolge als Illustrator erzielen. 1897 wurde er zum Kurator des Musée Carnavalet berufen. - Gute Exemplare.
Bindings - Entomology. - With 3 illustrated titles Gorgeous finely painted vellum manuscript covers painted by Georges Cain, with blind and gilt borders, black spine labels and gilt spine titles. The splendidly finely painted manuscript bindings feature painted floral borders depicting entomological fauna such as bumblebee, cockchafer, green grasshopper cricket, ant lion (larva of the ant damselfly) and three ants, as well as two ground beetles. The first volume shows a portrait of a woman together with Cain's signature. He came from a family of artists He was a student of Alexandre Cabanel and Jean-Georges-Vibert.
