Autograph letter signed "As Ever, John" to "Alfred" on Hersey's stationery, addressing the rumor of his impending divorce: "It is definite now that Frances and I will be separated and divorced… You'll be glad to know that one product of having this long period of tension resolved is that I'm pitching back into my work again with renewed vigor and pleasure." 2) Weston, Conneticut: 9 January 1963. 1 page. Autograph letter signed "As ever yours, John" on Hersey's stationery. Hersey announces the arrival of his work "Here to Stay" and sends a copy with his inscription. "Here to Stay has arrived, and even making allowance for the amour-propre that a write feels when he sees a book of as a book for the first time; it seems to me beautiful to look at- as anything addressed to you would have to be." 3) [Key West:] 8 August 1987. 1 page.
