Collection de dessins relatifs a leur voyage autour du monde en 1824, 1825 et 1826 . Paris: Bulla, 1828. 2° (506 x 337mm). Half title, vignette on title page, 28 lithographic plates by Langlumé after Touanme and 7 lithographic illustrations, plates and text leaves with marginal blindstamp 'FB' [?of Bulla]. (Spotting and foxing throughout, pp.13-16 lightly browned.) Contemporary half straight-grained morocco gilt (extremities rubbed, boards stained). FIRST EDITION OF 'THIS FINE SERIES OF VIEWS ... issued separately nine years before the official account of H. Bougainville's voyage was published' (Hill), including fine views of Singapore and the Philippines. The son of Louis Antoine de Bougainville (1729-1811) who had circumnavigated the world in 1766-1779, French naval officer Hyacinthe de Bougainville set sail from France in March 1824 with the ships Thétis and L'Espérance on a diplomatic mission to Réunion, Cochin-China and Pondicherry in the Indian Ocean, and Manila and Macao in the Pacific. He returned across the Pacific, retracing his father's previous circumnavigation, and, after anchoring at Port Jackson for three months, returned to France via Rio.
