Very necessarye for all christen men and women to loke upon. And Englyshed by Thomas Paynell. London: John Tisdale, 1561. 8° (135 x 86mm). Collation: s8 - 2 A-Z 8 Aa-Zz 8 a-c 8 d 4 . In the first quire folio 2 is signed *4, identical to the British Library copy, two preliminary leaves presumably having been cancelled. Woodcut titleborder [McKerrow & Ferguson 52]. 19th-century black morocco gilt, edges gilt. Provenance : Cardiff Castle bookplate. ONLY EDITION IN ENGLISH of an important medieval text on Virtues and Vices. It was clearly popular as it went through a number of 15th-century editions. The translation is dedicated to Queen Elizabeth. STC 12742
