Beschreibung:

Lot of 12 images housed in 11 cases, accompanied by two modern (20th century) sixth plate cases. Highlights include: Ninth plate tintype of a soldier in uniform, with small portion of envelope behind image inscribed "This is a piece of my 89th flag I marched under," accompanied by a small, 1 x 1.5 in. flag fragment. A name, which appears to be "Jay S. Armstrong," is penciled inside the case, and this may represent James S. Armstrong who served with the 89th Ohio Infantry during the Civil War. Significant spotting/surface damage to plate. Housed in thermoplastic Union case with geometric/scroll design. Two quarter plate ambrotypes of a family, the first showing a husband and wife, the second showing three girls, presumably sisters, wearing sullen expressions, housed together in thermoplastic Union case, Roger deCoverly and the Gypsies' Fortune [Berg 1-38]. Some spotting on plates. Some varnish loss on the back of the plates. Some tarnish along perimeter of each plate. Chipping along corners/edges of case. Quarter plate ruby ambrotype of a couple, housed in full case with some surface wear. Some minor scratching in varnish on back of plate, some spotting in image. Sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of two young boys and a woman, housed in thermoplastic Union case with geometric/scroll design. Some tarnish along perimeter of plate. Small chips, few minor cracks in case. Sixth plate daguerreotype of a well-dressed young boy holding a book on his knee, housed in full case reinforced at hinge with black tape. Slight tarnish to image. Two sixth plate daguerreotypes of women with serious expressions, one holding spectacles in her hand. Each housed in full case reinforced at hinge with black tape. Some tarnish along perimeter of plate. Sixth plate daguerreotype of a man holding a book in his hand, housed in full case with significant loss to top cover (near hinge). Slight tarnish along perimeter of plate. Sixth plate outdoor tintype of two men riding in a horse-drawn wagon, housed in thermoplastic Union case with geometric/scroll design. Some wear/chipping to corners of case. Ninth plate ambrotype of young boy housed in case with mother-of-pearl inlay (fully separated at hinge). Some loss to varnish on back of plate. Tarnish along perimeter of image. Ninth plate tintype of young girl housed in thermoplastic Union case with geometric/scroll design with some surface wear. Image is a bit dark.
