A History of the Works of Sir Joshua Reynolds London: Published by Subscription for the Proprietors by Henry Graves and Co., Limited, 1899-1901. 13 volumes, 2° (406 x 335mm). Titles printed in red and black, 843 proof engraved plates by Algernon Graves after Joshua Reynolds a few printed in colours. (Occasional mainly marginal spotting.) Contemporary dark green half morocco gilt, spine with raised bands, lettered in gilt. Provenance : some of the plates are captioned in early pencil manuscript. ONE OF 6 LARGE PAPER COPIES. Loosely-inserted is a 2-page prospectus for the work which begins: "Particulars of a Superb Interleaved Set, One of Six, Specially Printed on Large Paper and Bound in 13 Volumes. Containing 843 Proof Illustrations Each Appearing in its Proper Page of Graves & Cronin's Great Book Entitled 'A History of the Work of Sir Joshua Reynolds', 100 copies of which only were issued by Private Subscription in 1899."
