FRITH, John (1503-33)]. A myrroure or lokynge glasse wherin you may beholde the Sacramente of baptisme described, Anno MDxxxiii, per me J.F. . London: John Day [1548?]. Small 8° (120 x 80mm). Collation: a-c 8 . (Inner blank margin of final leaf skilfully repaired.) 19th-century brown morocco gilt by De Coverly, edges gilt. Provenance : Cardiff Castle bookplate. ONLY EDITION. This is the first work to formulate the Protestant doctrine of the Sacrament, written by Frith while in the Tower, before he was burnt for heresy. The manuscript circulated at the time of his death and caused Thomas More to publish A letter impugnynge the erronyouse wryting of John Fryth agaynst the blessed sacrament of the altar in 1533. STC 11391 (records six copies, none in the British Library or America)
