Engraved allegorical frontispiece, 24 engraved plates after Coypel and others, 1 engraved folding map. Contemporary French citron morocco, covers with gilt triple fillet borders and the central arms of Madame Sophie de France (Olivier 2514 no. 3), spines gilt, gilt inner dentelles, g.e. Provenance : Thomas Philip Earl de Grey (1781-1859, armorial bookplate). AN ATTRACTIVE SET IN FINE CONTEMPORY CITRON MOROCCO BINDINGS FROM THE LIBRARY OF THE DAUGHTER OF LOUIS XV, possibly bound by Derome. "Mesdames de France, Adelade, Sophie, and Victoire, each formed a choice collection of books, prettily bound in morocco, partly by Derome and partly by Fournier... The volumes from the different libraries are distinguished by the colour of the leather...Those of Madame Sophie [being bound] in citron [morocco]" (Fletcher, Bookbinding in France , p. 69).
