Beschreibung:

"Oreo" cases contain tintypes of men including 3-499a, a "rare" example which features a portrait of a Civil War soldier, his buttons highlighted in gold. Case in near excellent condition, with small chip along edge, near 7 o'clock, of case bottom. Case 3-514a is "very rare." Few small chips along edge of case bottom, near 12, 6, 7, and 9 o'clock. Few short cracks along edges of lid. Case 3-617a classified as a "unique" example, although it does not include the lid. Very fine to near excellent condition. Tintype with remnants of tag affixed to right of gentleman's beard. Paul Berg authored an article that was published in the Daguerreian Society Annual in 2004 (p. 270) in which he discusses this particular case, which is smaller in size than all other known examples. Prior to 2004, this smaller "oreo" case had never been seen. Only one other example of this size, which was produced in black, has come to the surface since that time. Provenance:Paul K. Berg Collection of Nineteenth Century Photographic Cases and Wall Frames
