Pencil and watercolor drawing probably overstreaked with crayon (c.f. Hughey on these compositions), the illustration 14 7/8 x 10 7/8 inches (38 x 27.5 cm), signed (l.r.) and dated (/12). The board affixed to the mat with tape on the verso, old notations in pencil ("No. 11 Annabel Lee"), the drawing clean and sound, with rich, strong colors. Framed. It is among the most memorable of all Dulac's illustrations for Poe. "It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of Annabel Lee; And this maiden she lived with no other thought Than to love and be loved by me."
