Lot of 26 Civil War-era cartes de visite by J.P Ball's Photographic Studio, Cincinnati, Ohio, including 16 with two or three cent revenue stamps affixed to verso. Notables include a full length shot of an unidentified Union officer and a vignette of Union sergeant identified on verso as Albertus C. Rogers, Little Genesee, N.Y. Rogers enlisted at Alfred, NY, as a sergeant in Co. D, 86th New York Inf., in September 1861. He was wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness May 5, 1864, and discharged for promotion three months later, accepting a commission in U.S. Colored Troops 13th Heavy Artillery. A few other civilian photographs identified on verso. Provenance: Dr. John W. Ravage Collection of African American Photography Condition: Most with light-to-moderate toning, soiling, and edge wear.
