Mill was secretary to the Royal Geographical Society during its involvement with British Antarctic expeditions, and a friend to Scott, Shackleton and Spiers Bruce. He also wrote the introduction to Shackleton's 1909 The Heart of the Antarctic, as a well as a biography of Shackleton in 1923.
