(Some browning and staining.) Contemporary blind-paneled calf (hinges broken, some light wear, library mark on foot of spine). Provenance : notes on blank leaves and in margins in an early hand; John Plumptre (bookplate on flyleaf). FIRST EDITION . Bradley was a prolific author of works on botany. Despite lacking any formal training in the discipline, he was the first professor of botany at Cambridge. The olive plate is by John Sturt, an artist who was known primarily for his religiously-themed engravings. Cleveland Collections 352 (GC copy this copy); Henrey p.449.
