Leading the Star Chamber, Bacon brought his case to the court to see if it could "doe any good to tame and reclaime that evill which seems unbridled." Viewing dueling as a threat to their authority, Bacon and the governing bodies in England argued that the duel went against the will of God and therefore should carry a severe penalty.
