Imponente fusione in bronzo scuro raffigurante il maestro Marpa Lotsawa (1012-1097). Seduto con la gamba sinistra schiusa in posizione ardhaparyanka su una base a fior di loto singolo, tiene entrambe le mani poggiate sulle ginocchia in bhumisparsamudra, in una postura che é sua esclusiva. Il volto é caratterizzato da lineamenti taglienti e mascolini e contornato da una corta capigliatura che lo contraddistingue. La veste realizzata con morbidi panneggi é abbellita da fini decorazioni floreali sui bordi e presenta inoltre un mantello dalle rigide costolature e gioielli ad abbellire collo e cintura, la quale, mostra alloggiamenti atti ad ospitare pietre preziose ormai perse. Da notare la raffinatissima qualità di fusione di mani e piedi. Marpa é considerato una delle più rilevanti figure del Buddhismo tibetano e terzo patriarca della scuola Kagyu-pa, nonché fondatore del suo lignaggio di trasmissione. Fu allievo di Naropa e soprattutto maestro di Milarepa. È importante inoltre per aver importato dall’India in Tibet importanti testi devozionali e per il suo lavoro di traduzione. Big dark bronze cast portraying the master Marpa Lotsawa (1012-1097). He is sitting on a single lotus flower base in the ardhaparyanka position, his left leg stretched outwards. Both his hands are resting on his knees in the bhumisparsamudra position, which is his exclusive characteristic. The face shows masculine, sharp traits, and is surrounded by short hair, characterizing him. The softly draped robe is enriched by fine floral decorations on the edges, by a cloak with ribbing and by jewels on the neck and the belt, which presents slots made to hold precious stones, now lost. Particularly impressive is the extremely fine quality of the cast of hands and feet. Marpa is considered to be one of the most prominent personalities of Tibetan Buddhism, and was the third patriarch of the Kagyu-pa school, in addition to being the founder of his lineage. He was a pupil of Naropa and the master of Milarepa. He is also responsible for having imported important devotional texts from India to Tibet, thanks to his translations.
