[Apollo 14] 4-part panorama of Fra Mauro Base looking toward Cone Crater, with the shadows of Alan Shepard and the MET. Alan Shepard, 31 January - 9 February 1971, EVA 1. Printed 1971. Four vintage chromogenic prints on fiber-based GAF paper [NASA images AS14–66-9309, AS14–66-9311, AS14–66-9313, AS14–66-9315]. Each 25.4×20.3 cm (10×8 in), with “GAF” watermarks on the versos, numbered “AS14–66-9309”, “AS14–66-9311”, “AS14–66-9313”, “AS14–66-9315” in black in bottom margin (NASA / United States Geological Survey, Flagstaff, Arizona). (4). These four overlapping photographs taken by Alan Shepard from the 12 o’clock position relative to the LM hatch (west of the LM) provide a panoramic view looking west of the Fra Mauro moonscape. The Solar Wind Collector is in the left foreground. The shadow of Alan Shepard next to the MET (Modularized Equipment Transporter) is in the right foreground. Part of the LM shadow is in the left foreground. The 1-km old Nameless Crater is in the far left background. From the mission transcript when the photograph was taken: 114:56:15 Mitchell: Now, I’ll zoom in out here once more (with the TV camera). Let you see at close hand what’s out there. Another pile of rocks (and) more ridges. 114:56:44 McCandless (Mission Control): You’re pointing at the sky. (Pause) 114:56:51 Mitchell: Okay. 114:56:52 McCandless: That’s better. 114:56:53 Mitchell: You need a gunsight on this thing. 114:56:54 McCandless: You sure do. 114:56:55 Mitchell: That better? 114:56:56 McCandless: Yeah. The horizon is about one quarter of the way up. 114:56:58 Mitchell: Okay. (Pause as Ed lowers his aim) 114:57:04 McCandless: Beautiful. (Long Pause) 114:57:20 Shepard: Okay, Houston. Al is finished with the documentation; (and the frame) counter (is reading) 110 (on the Hasselblad).
