This work is also called Badi' al-Jamal, from the name of the princess to whom it is dedicated. The date of composition is 1367-68 AD. The author was born in AH 730 in Shiraz. He was the physician of the Muzaffarid ruler Shah Shuja' (r. AH 760-86) for sixteen years. Besides this work, he wrote several medical treatises. The work is divided in two books (maqala). The first deals with the properties of simple medicines (mufradat) which are arranged alphabetically under their Arabic names with cross-references from other names if any, and the second book describes the properties of compound medicaments (murakabat) and is divided into sixteen babs
