Africa. Bailleul (Nicolas), L'Afrique divisée suivant l'entendüe de ses pricipales parties, Lyon: Daudet, 1752, large wall map with contemporary outline colouring, engraved by Delamonce on 2 conjoined sheets, the map surrounded by 30 uncoloured vignettes, old folds, slight dust soiling, slight abrasion and loss where old folds cross, 785 x 1015 mm (Qty: 1) A rare wall map. Nicolas Bailleul was a Parisian geographer of whom very little is known. He was the son of Gaspard Bailleul also a cartographer active in the early 18th century. The map was printed by Daudet, a card merchant, map and bookseller in Lyon. We have been unable to trace a copy in the British Library catalogue or on Worldcat, but a set of Bailleul maps comprising the world and the four continents including Africa is known to have been exhibited by a continental dealer at the London Map Fair in 2019.
