A collection of costume and other textiles, comprising: a gilt and coloured thread kokoshnik headdress, circa 1910, owned and worn by Lady Diana Cooper; a double-sided heraldic banner; a Persian figural painted wall covering; a lace and floral painted silk fan, circa 1910, with plain mother of pearl sticks and guards; two other fans; a gentleman's morning top hat by G. A. Dunn & Co., initialled JJC, in a leather hat box; a Chinese embroidered silk robe, early 19th century; and other items Lady Diana Cooper referred to herself wearing the headdress as “myself as Russia - for charity” For a photograph of Lady Diana Cooper wearing this headdress please see Getty Images, Hulton Collection, license 112088532. See also, Art Uk, The National Trust, Plas Newydd where they hold on loan since 1976 a painting by -James Jebusa Shannon (18621923) of Diana’s mother, Violet, Duchess of Rutland, wearing what appears to be the same headdress. The painting was ‘according to the artist’s inscription, given to her daughter Marjorie Manners, Marchioness of Anglesey in 1918.
