The Mercedes-Benz R129 models were produced from 1989 through to 2001 and were sold under the SL-Class model name before being replaced by the R230 in 2001. The R129 was based on the shortened floorpan of the Mercedes-Benz W124 saloon and featured many innovative details for the time. The fifth generation of the legendary SL series of two-door convertible sports cars featured a fully retractable hardtop that was marketed as the Vario Roof; a first for the SL class, although it had been available on the smaller SLK model since 1997. The flagship models were built by AMG in the form of the SL55 (a 5.4 litre supercharged engine) with each engine individually hand assembled and signed by the technician. The F1 package enhanced an already formidable weapon, denoted by the term, '030 AMG Performance Pack' in the build specification, there are many pretenders out there but without '030' in history, walk away. Having been serviced and maintained by Mercedes-Benz main dealers between 2005 and 2009, the recent care has been with renowned Mercedes-Benz specialist MBS of Exeter. Options on this car when new included panoramic Vario glass roof, Keyless Go, TV Tuner, newly refurbished Carlsson 20 inch 1/11 alloy wheels and Parktronic to name a few adding a whopping estimated £25,000 to the list price and taking the total bill in the region of £120,000. With an MoT until July 2017, a superb, well cared for example, inside and out, this is a competitively priced collectors car that has appreciated in value nearly as fast as it can eat up the tarmac, all whilst in the luxury and comfort of the SL cabin especially with the optional panoramic roof.
