The Jaguar E-Type was initially designed and shown to the public as a grand tourer in two-seater coupé form and as a convertible roadster. The 2+2 version with a lengthened wheelbase was released several years later. On its release Enzo Ferrari called the Jaguar E-Type ""The most beautiful car ever made"". The model was made in three distinct versions which are now generally referred to as 'Series 1', 'Series 2' and 'Series 3'. The Museum of Modern Art recognized the significance of the Jaguar E-Type's design in 1996 by adding a blue roadster to its permanent design collection, one of only two automobiles to receive the distinction. Open headlights without glass covers, a wrap-around rear bumper, re-positioned and larger front indicators and tail lights below the bumpers, better cooling aided by an enlarged 'mouth' and twin electric fans, together with up-rated brakes are all hallmarks of series two cars. The engine is easily identified visually by the change from smooth polished cam covers to a more industrial 'ribbed' appearance. The interior and dashboard were also re-designed, with rocker switches being substituted for toggle switches. The dashboard switches also lost their symmetrical layout. New seats were fitted, which purists claim lacked the style of the originals but were certainly more comfortable, and air conditioning and power steering were available as factory options. This very original Jaguar E-Type Coupé 2 + 2 has only covered 78,740 miles from new which is verified by the continuous history and old MoT certificates which come with the car. The vendor is the third owner; the first lady owner had the car for about eighteen months before Donald Eric Frost, the owner of John Bull Tyres, purchased the car from her. Donald was over 6 feet 5 inches tall, so to be able to drive the car comfortably he had a smaller Moto-Lita steering wheel fitted and the horn push moved to the side of the driving position. The vendor purchased this E-Type from him in September 1985 and has driven the car less than 1,000 miles a year. The car was repainted about eight years ago in the original colour of Regency Red and retains the original beige leather interior. Within the last twelve months, the headlining has been replaced with the correct West of England cloth and whilst in the garage having one of the radiator fan motors being replaced, it was decided to investigate a slight misfire to the engine. This resulted in removing the cylinder head and replacing a valve and overhauling the cylinder head, and at the same time electronic ignition was also fitted. The car is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in July 2012, a large history file with all the old MoT test certificates proving the low mileage, a Jaguar certificate confirming the original numbers of the car, an original handbook in its own wallet and the original tool kit.
