The Alfa Romeo 2600 (series 106) was Alfa Romeo´s six-cylinder flagship and produced from 1961 to 1968. It has become historically significant as the last Alfa Romeo to have been fitted with an inline six-cylinder engine having twin overhead camshafts. This had been the traditional Alfa Romeo engine configuration since the 1920's but gave way to four-cylinder engines as the factory oriented its production towards more economical mass-produced car models after the Second World War. The 2600 Sprint made more of an impression. It was a large grand touring coupé which could seat four adults in comfort over long journeys at high speeds. The car also inherited the sharp, modern styling of its predecessor, the 2000 Sprint, and that certainly contributed to its being the top seller in the 2600 range. That shape had been the result of Giorgetto Giugiaro's first major project as head designer for Carrozzeria Bertone, and is arguably one of the most influential designs in the history of automotive styling. On offer is this three owner, righthand drive, 1968 Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint which was delivered new to Belfast, Northern Ireland to its first owner, a Mr David Wood He was not happy with the build quality and proceeded to have the car dismantled and reassembled to his own very high standards, after which he kept the car for 18 years before selling it to the second owner. The car was then purchased by the third owner in 1995 in Northern Ireland showing only a total of 52,500 miles. Imported to the UK earlier this year by the vendor, this very original and well presented 2600 Sprint is finished in black with maroon leather interior. Within the last year a new clutch has been fitted, an oil leak from the rear axle has been cured, rear brake callipers overhauled and the car has been repainted to bring it to showroom condition. The car is supplied with Northern Ireland Registration and a original handbook. The Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint is fast becoming recognised for the fine tourer it is with prices on the increase. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a genuine low mileage, righthand drive Alfa Romeo in excellent condition throughout.
