1931 FORD MODEL A400 TWO DOOR CONVERTIBLE SEDAN Serial No. 2453088 Two tone blue with black fenders and beige canvas top Engine: four-cylinder, 200.5ci; Gearbox: three-speed and reverse; Brakes: four wheel mechanical; Suspension; front, semi-elliptical springs. Left hand drive. The Model A followed the fabulous Model T which finally ceased production in 1927 after fifteen million had been made. There was a wait of 6 months before the Model A appeared: it was a new design but retained the transverse springing of the Model T all round. It sold a million in the first sixteen months, by 1929 had ousted Chevrolet as America's best seller, and out sold them by 2:1 in 1930. It really was a transitional model between the Model T and the first V8 of 1932, 4½ million being sold in four years of production. Various bodies were made, with the A400 convertible sedan being particularly attractive, rare and desirable. Production on the A400 lasted only six months with fewer than 5,000 made. This car has twin spare wheels, driving mirror and cowl lights and an opening wind-shield. Options included are the wind wings, radiator stoneguard and hood ornament. This car was donated to the museum in 1984 by Mr Larry Kornbleet of Fort Worth, Texas. It is in very presentable condition and was last driven by one of the museum staff approximately five years ago. At that time it apparently ran well. The engine block is not stamped with a number.
