Single sheet bond. With decorative borders and a vignette with a world globe on a dock with ships in the background. 10 of 12 coupons still attached, each signed by John A Paxton, Treasurer of Yuba County. 35x27 cm (14x10½"). Bond #49 in the amount of $500 for the "Funded Debt of Yuba County, in the State of California" made out to Arthur S. Barber. It was signed on July 1, 1852 by Henry P. Hann, Judge, and Charles Lindley, County Auditor, with full payment due in 1860. On the verso is a note that the payment was received in full in January 1855 and is signed by Jno. M. Beumagin, as well as Paxton. Arthur Barber, a pioneer of 1849, became the first postmaster of Alameda, CA. John Paxton also a 49er, first settled in Marysville, then moved to Sonoma County. There, near Healdsburg, he had one of the first vineyards and wineries in the county.
