WWI Medals. An interesting group of three to Paymaster Lieutenant H.T. Bryson, Royal Navy Reserve, 1914-15 (Asst. Payr. H.T. Bryson, R.N.R.), British War and Victory Medals (Payr. Lt. H.T. Bryson. R.N.R.), good very fine. Paymaster Lieutenant Herbert Tittenser Bryson, was commissioned into the Royal Naval Reserve in 1914 (Temporary Assistant Paymaster) and posted to Vienna on 22 January 1915 this being the name for what became the Q-Ship and former Great Eastern Railway vessel S.S. Antwerp, which was one of the earliest Q-Ship’s and operated in the English Channel under the command of Lieutenant Commander Godfrey Herbert, Royal Navy, then one of the most experienced officers of the submarine service. However she had no joy of the hunt, with only one action of any note on the 12th March 1915 when she gave chase to a submarine which was sinking merchant vessels in an area of the Schilles not far from Bishop Rock Lighthouse, however the submarine escaped and Antwerp was decommissioned on 5 April 1915.
