24" x 30" silk flag with prisoner signatures from POW camp #1. This flag was originally a Japanese prayer flag with prayers written in Japanese. The lot also includes one Peso currency note signed by Tomoyuki Yamashita in both English and Japanese. Yamashita (1885-1946) was the Japanese Imperial Army general of World War II noted for his capture of Malaya and Singapore. He was executed after a highly controversial trial in the Philippines for atrocities committed by soldiers under his command. In addition, the lot features two original Signal Corps post cards, and four copies of photographs. Condition: Very good. Small 2" tear in center of the flag.
