WOOLF, Virginia. The Common Reader, Second Series . London: by Leonard & Virginia Woolf at the Hogarth Press, 1932. 8° (215 x 140mm.). (A few leaves at beginning and end spotted). Original cloth (slightly discoloured) PRESENTATION COPY inscribed by the author 'Violet Trefusis from Virginia Woolf', given on the occasion of their one and only meeting. In her novel Orlando the character of the Russian princess Sasha is based on Violet Trefusis ("She talked so enchantingly, so wittily, so wisely"); this portrayal by Virginia Woolf was gleaned from information given by Vita in her letters in reply to Virginia's questions. In one of Virginia's letters to Vita she refers to Violet, 'I still remember her, like a fox cub, all scent and seduction''.
