Title: WITHDRAWN Chinese Girl Author: Hunt, Esther Anna Place: San Francisco Publisher: Date: c.1900-1910 Description: Oil painting on canvas. 25¼x15½, in original painted wooden frame reminiscent of Chinse architecture. Characteristic painting by Esther Hunt, of a young Chinese girl standing with her arms folded. Esther Anna Hunt (1875-1951), was born in Nebraska and raised on a ranch outside of San Diego. Around 1901 she began studying art at the Mark Hopkins Institute, and as a means of financing her studies she began painting Chinatown subjects which she sent to a New York dealer, who readily sold them. She later studied in New York and Paris, and had a studio in Los Angeles for four years before returning to San Francisco in 1918. It could be that the present painting is from that latter period. Scarce in the original frame. Lot Amendments Condition: Minor wear to the frame; very good. Item number: 197971
